TotalEnergies technology-sharing with Oil India Limited

At TotalEnergies, we firmly believe that technology sharing is a powerful lever for transforming the oil and gas industry and achieving near-zero methane emissions by 2030. This collective ambition begins with precise, asset and source-level CH4 emissions measurement to atmosphere. We are proud to collaborate with Oil India Limited (OIL) on the deployment of AUSEA technology, our advanced airborne spectrometry solution, across several sites around Duliajan, Assam, the birthplace of oil exploration in Asia. This region, where the continent’s first oil was discovered, now serves as a launchpad for pioneering methane detection and quantification.

The one-month project conducted in and around OIL’s facilities at Duliajan, the company’s field headquarters, provided a deeper understanding of methane and CO₂ emissions. The drone flights covered approximately 600 kilometers of aerial distance through 270 panels, spanning more than 20 sites. This achievement was made possible thanks to the immense support and collaboration of OIL’s dedicated team throughout the project.

AUSEA is already delivering valuable insights into OIL’s emissions profile, helping the company develop a robust, data-driven roadmap toward achieving near-zero upstream methane emissions. OIL team is preparing the remedial plans to cutdown the emissions.

This partnership with OIL exemplifies the spirit of the Oil & Gas Decarbonization Charter (OGDC), launched at COP28, and reflects our shared commitment to innovation, and sustainability. The success of this joint operation stands as a compelling example of how shared value and mutual commitment can drive meaningful progress in global decarbonization efforts. We are confident that this initiative will accelerate the adoption of cutting-edge monitoring technologies and drive meaningful progress in global decarbonization efforts.
